A82: Gaelic Place-Names

Ainmean-Àite na h-Alba have completed the place-names research for the  A82 trunk road.  This research was carried out by contacting local sources on Gaelic place-names, consulting previous research and contacting recognised authorities on Gaelic place-names.

We are now delighted to be able to publish the report authored by our researcher which details the Gaelic place-names to appear on the trunk roads signs.  It is expected that these road signs will be erected during the summer of 2007.

A82 Gaelic place-names

The programme of bilingual signs was agreed by the Scottish Executive in 2003.  To date bilingual signs have been erected on the A830, A828, A87, A887 and the A835.  The remaining roads under the current programme are the A85, A82 and A83.

We are also working closely, on an ongoing basis, with local authorities to establish definitive forms of Gaelic place-names for use in a variety of situations.
